Growing to know your culture with kirtan
Our culture is our strength, and the roots of Sikhism are connected with powerful stories and courage. Our kirtans are sung to celebrate the strength and courage our gurus have given us and the path he has opened for us to follow. Why not teach our kids about their religion with the help of music?
Welcome to our Let’s Learn Kirtan school program for teaching kirtan to the kids and making them familiar with their culture. Our school program is divided into three sections foundation, appreciation and creation.
Foundation
Students are taught musical aspects through principles they are already familiar with by demystifying musical concepts like rhythm, pitch, shape, texture, timbre, and intelligible dynamics.
Appreciation
The curriculum teaches students to understand music’s flexibility by listening to music from other cultures and genres. Students gain knowledge of the culture by memorizing songs about it. By dissecting the song into its constituent parts, they also put their basic musical understanding to the test.
Creation
Our goal is to assist students in leveraging their musical knowledge to compose original music, which promotes deeper learning. They draw on their musical skills by writing songs with their musical components and lyrics.
